2kms of hedge to be planted
A HEDGE will be planted around the Lettershandoney Playing Fields on March 27 as part of a bid to create two kilometres of native mixed hedgerows around the Faughan Valley.
Before that tree-planting events will take place on March 6 and March 7 at Claudy Country Park.
Mayor Kevin Campbell encouraged people to become involved: “I would encourage people to get in touch with the Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership and volunteer to help create these new habitats.
“This is a great opportunity to gain new skills, meet new people and make a difference to the landscape.”
The majority of the trees for hedgerow creation are provided by Woodland Trust as free tree packs for schools and community groups. Events are funded by the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007 -2013 through Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Derry City Council and Heritage Lottery Fund.
