Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has called on the Department of Social Development to provide funding for the redevelopment of Prehen boathouse.
Mr Fleming made the call after attending a meeting with members of Foyle Paddlers, City of Derry Rowing Club and Derry City Council officials on Tuesday.
He said: “Both clubs had concerns about the future of the boathouse and raised those concerns with Council officers. The meeting was positive and Council officers updated the members that new funding opportunities are being actively pursued which, if successful, would hopefully secure the long term future of the facility.
“I am calling on the DSD to provide funding for the redevelopment of the boathouse to ensure modern facilities for both of these clubs as well as opening it up to wider use.
“The Prehen boathouse has a great deal of potential and its redevelopment would assist the regeneration of the city’s waterfront.”
