Have your say

The Rev. Canon Samuel McVeigh, MBE, TD, Rector of Drumachose, Christ Church, has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Londonderry.

This is the first time ever that a cleric has been appointed to such a position in Northern Ireland. The office of Lord-Lieutenant has existed for well over four hundred years. The title Lord Lieutenant and Deputy is given to the British monarch’s personal representatives in a county. The person appointed has usually given significant service to their local community.

Canon McVeigh’s contribution to community life was recognized when he was awarded an MBE earlier this year.
