A man has was fined £200 at Londonderry Magistrates Court for possessing a crow bar in doctors surgery.

Ian McFaul (22), of John Street, admitted possessing an offensive weapon on March 3.

The Court heard that McFaul went to the GP surgery, where the doctor noticed he had a crowbar concealed up his sleeve. The defendant also had a panic alarm up his other sleeve.

During police interview, McFaul said he was carrying the weapon because he had been the victim of an attack by a sectarian gang the week before and had no intention of using the crowbar.

Imposing penalty, District Judge Barney McElholm said: “One can understand why the people in the health centre would have been concerned about this. I don’t think there was any threat to them from this man”.
