FOUL Londonderry dog owners are continuing to mar the city’s iconic Peace Bridge by failing to clear up after their incontinent animals despite £50 fines being in place and apparent 24/7 CCTV surveillance.
The Sentinel on Thursday (September 19) captured this foul mess (see picture) on the bridge, which was evidently deposited in broad daylight.
Last year Derry City Council ordered 20k dirt bags to try to stop foul dog owners and their pets making a mess on our pavements and parks.
Between 2005 and September 2012 only ten irresponsible owners were fined in the city despite over 1,000 complaints having been registered by members of the public.
Londonderry regeneration company Ilex is responsible for the Peace Bridge, however.
According to a CCTV contract newly tendered by Derry City Council this week, cameras installed by Ilex on the Peace Bridge are supposed to be monitored on a 24/7 basis by a local security company.
The health dangers of dog excrement are well-known.
