Don’t miss Arty McGlynn and Shane McAleer in concert at the Alley Theatre on Saturday (August 2).
Arty McGlynn needs no introduction.
He is without question one of the finest guitar players in Ireland, with a unique understanding of music he performs.
He is one of the most sought after musicians in the country, playing and recording with Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Donal Lunny, Liam O’Flynn and the Chieftains. He also played as a member of Planxty, Patrick Street, De Danann and the Van Morrison Band.
Shane Mc Aleer, from Omagh, began his professional career shortly after winning the All-Ireland fiddle title at the Fleadh in Sligo in 1990. He became the newest member of Sligo traditional band ‘Dervish.’
The band released the album ‘Harmony Hill’ in 1991 and the response was immediate. Shane remained at the forefront of the band and went on to record three subsequent albums during his time with the group, including the classic ‘Live in Palma’ which consolidated the band’s position at the top of the traditional ladder.
After stints with various bands including ‘Stockton’s Wing’ and playing and teaching in his native Omagh for several years, Shane moved to Belfast and in 2012 released his debut solo recording ‘Long Time, No See.’
The album features tasteful arrangements of traditional tunes as well as Shane’s original compositions. It is set to become a classic of the genre.
