Local group to appear on TV lotto show

A LONDONDERRY health forum has reached the final of the UK National Lottery Awards and will appear on the state broadcaster’s lotto magazine on Saturday (September 22).

The Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum is a community-led health improvement project bringing together many different groups and agencies in order to enhance the health and well-being of the people that reside in the community.

The Health Forum coordinates a rolling programme of health promotion and development in various community venues throughout the area.

It prides itself on being able to initiate projects that can be financially sustainable, independent and can continue into the future beyond the support of the Health Forum.

A fantastic example of a project initiated by the Health Forum is The Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Support Group which has now grown to become an active group organising and delivering activities within the community.

Local men Tony, John and Trevor were all experiencing health problems such as back pain, depression and obesity prior to visiting Bogside and Brandywell. The project literally changed their lives by engaging them in healthy living centres where they enjoy exercising and meeting new people. All three took part in a recent boat race - a testament to their new health and something they never thought they would be able to physically achieve.
