He takes over from Gavin Killeen, who completes his period of office on Thursday. Gavin said: “It has been a great privilege to be President of our historic Chamber.

“Our Chamber continues to be the strongest voice for business in the North West and I thank our politicians for their willingness to listen to us. They are promising to deliver for our city and region.”

George Fleming said: “I congratulate Gavin on having been a superb President. He is a tough act to follow. All Chamber Presidents have their own priorities and themes. Gavin has focused on the need for us to raise our skills in order to meet the needs of the modern economy. My theme for my year in office will be on enterprise and the necessity for us to create an entrepreneurial economy in the North West. Without that, we will not create the jobs and wealth that our city and region need.”
