DUP MLA Gary Middleton has criticised Mayor Elisha McCallion for standing beside the Irish Tricolour during her St Patrick’s Day video.

“Over recent years the city council have been making efforts to improve the inclusiveness of the St Patrick’s day festivities,” he said.

“Across Northern Ireland the public has been encouraged to show respect on the day by flying the St Patrick’s flag as opposed to the Tricolour, a flag not associated with St Patrick. The video by the Mayor will be seen by many as a political stunt, something the office of the Mayor should not be involved in and should not be using the title to promote.

“I urge the Mayor to ensure that her office is representative of all communities and to ensure inclusion of minority communities in Londonderry.”
