Glendermott Presbyterian Church, on Church Road in the Waterside, was the scene of celebration at the weekend, when a long-serving elder was recognised and commended for his unstinting service.

Described by those who know him as “a lovely leader”, Eric Docherty has been given a lifetime of service to the congregation of Glendermott Presbyterian Church.

In recognition of his 33 years of service, Mr Docherty was presented with a gift, by way of grateful thanks.

Commending Mr Docherty for his service, which included keeping the accounts for several committees associated with the church and church groups, Rev John Hanna said he was still an Elder with the church despite being in his 80s.

However, he noted that Mr Docherty wanted to let go of some of his responsibilities.

The presentation was made to Mr Docherty by Committee Secretary Mark Thompson and Rev John Hanna.
