Dragons awake for Hallowe’en

CREATURES that have been lying in slumber in the city’s underground tunnels and caves for the past 5,000 years are coming to the surface to be part of Londonderry’s five days of family fun at the Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival celebrations, 27-31 October.

The Dragon Safari adventure is a hugely exciting and interactive wildlife extravaganza and will be located at St Columb’s Park on Monday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 30, between 1 and 5pm (latest admission 4.30pm) and on Wednesday, October 31, between 1 and 3pm (last admission at 2.30pm).

Rumour has it that as the darker evenings begin to draw in, sightings of these strange creatures have been reported throughout the city with giant footprints appearing at a number of locations!

Don’t miss the chance to let your little monsters join in the hunt, and get exploring as the Safari sets up camp at St Columb’s Park. Word on the street is that the dragons may make a surprise appearance at the Carnival parade on Wednesday night, 31 October, as they are very keen to cross the peace bridge and join in the celebrations along the Quay.

Tickets for the dragon safari adventure are available to purchase in advance from Derry City Council Offices, the Tower Museum and St Columb’s park Leisure Centre until Saturday, October 27, priced at £10 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) or £3 for a single ticket. Tickets will also be available on the day from the Gate at St Columb’s Park.

Mayor Cllr Kevin Campbell said: “I really like the idea of the dragon safari and the way these huge scaled creatures will be roaming around St Columbs Park and encouraging children and their parents to get involved in some dragon hunting games.

“It’s a great way of encouraging people to use the park and get active as we prepare for another huge event for the city.”

The Mayor added that the Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival, which is being supported by NITB, is the perfect opportunity for people outside the city to make a date and visit the city.
