Culmore residents under siege from park vandals

Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan called for parents in the area to ensure that their children are not caught up in anti-social behaviour, which has been reported in the vicinity of the Ballynagard Play Park.

He said: “We have received a number of complaints about anti community activity in the play park there and the effect this is having on residents who live adjacent to it.

“A number of issues have been raised such as trespassing, property damage, broken windows, noise and abusive language.”

Colr. Hassan said large gatherings in the area have been causing anxiety for local residents.

“There are groups of young people gathering there and this can be very intimidating for those residents.

“I will be visiting the site and talking with council officials to see what can be done here to lessen the issues raised by residents. I would urge parents in the area to ensure that their children are not getting caught up in this.”

The local Sinn Féin councillor warned a continuation of the vandalism could lead to the curtailment of local amenities.

“Culmore is an area crying out for facilities the last thing we want to see it having to close or restrict access to ones that are there.”
