A man who was disorderly and drunk on Christmas Day when police encountered him and tried to arrest him on foot of an outstanding money warrant, has appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Kevin Liddy (33), of Cromore Gardens, was stopped by police as he made his way home from Christmas dinner.

The defendant was highly intoxicated and became verbally abusive. He kicked at the police car and attempted to kick out at the officers because he felt aggrieved.

He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months by Deputy District Judge Ted Magill.
