Two men have appeared before Londonderry Magistrate’s Court in connection with the death of a pensioner on April 17, 2013.

David Richie (69), from Tullyally, died as a result of a collision on Glenshane Road close to Burntollet Bridge.

In court were Thomas Andrew Hyndman (25) of Knockbrack Road, Ardmore, charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving without insurance, while Stephen Edward Joseph Magee (33), from Ivy Mead was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

During the preliminary inquiry into the case, counsel for the defendants accepted there was a prima facie case to answer.

When asked, both men said they did not wish to call any witnesses or present any evidence at this stage in the case.

Both Hyndman and Magee were released on their own bail of £500 to reside at their given addresses.

They will return to Londonderry Magistrate’s Court on March 8, for arraignment.
