A wheelchair user who used cannabis for medicinal purposes was given a six-month sentence, suspended for two years when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Michael Anthony Donegan (36), of Drumleck Drive, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and simple possession of the class B drug between September and December 2013.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client suffered a catastrophic injury and this left him unable to walk.

He said Donegan would use cannabis for ‘medicinal purposes’.
