Local organisations are being invited this week to contribute to plans for a programme of local events marking the centenaries of the 1916 Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme.

A number of grants are being made available to organisations hoping to celebrate the historic era between 1913–23, and tell the stories of how lives were impacted by events locally.

The council has approved £50,000 funding which includes £10,000 of small grants up to £1,000 to support community activity, and two large funds of up to £20,000 for events to commemorate both the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme.

Further information on how to submit applications is available from www.derrystrabane.com/publicnotice. Small grant applications must be submitted by 12pm, Friday, January, 29. For tenders for the large grants log on at www.derrystrabane.com/Business/Tenders.
