Head of Community Development and Leisure with Council, Barry O’Hagan, said the essential maintenance and refurbishment work would improve general standards for users bringing them into line with other Council facilities.

“I am delighted to be able to confirm that the Templemore Sports Complex will be undergoing some much needed refurbishment over the coming months which will enhance the general experience for leisure users,” he said.

“It’s estimated that the main body of work will take around three weeks to complete, and during this time we will seek to accommodate users with access to alternative facilities at our other leisure sites.

“The work is a demonstration of our commitment to retaining a high standard of service at all Council leisure centres, and we look forward to embarking on the programme of works in the summer. We appreciate the co-operation of the public and our regular users will return to a range of new and improved facilities at the refurbished centre,” he added.

The work is due to commence on Monday, July 31, running to Sunday, August 20, 2017, and customers, user groups and the general public will receive further information regarding the plans when all arrangements for the work have been finalised.

The refurbishment is an interim improvement scheme before the full redevelopment of the site, with plans for a state of the art new facility planned as part of Council’s capital development programme. In December 2016 Council launched a European wide process to procure the services of an integrated design team to progress a number of strategic capital developments for the district including Templemore.

Once appointed the team will work closely with Council officers in developing what will be landmark facilities for the Templemore and Strabane areas.
