ALLIANCE Party Executive Director Gerry Lynch has said that the Maiden City should have two official names, Londonderry and Derry.
The Alliance Party has revealed that it has submitted a response to an equality impact assessment over the proposal to change the name of the City to Derry.
Gerry Lynch said: "There are precedents for cities having two names in other parts of the world and I believe that this is the best option for the Maiden City. If this was approved then our second city really could say it is twice the place it once was!
"The current bid to have the name change to Derry alone should be abandoned in the interests of community relations.
"In practice, most businesses, government agencies and voluntary groups are quite happy to let people call both the city and county Derry or Londonderry as they see fit anyway. "
