City got just 15% of cruise ship berthings

LONDONDERRY UK City of Culture 2013 was port of call for just 15 per cent of cruise ships visiting Northern Ireland during the 2012 season, according to Tourism Minister Arlene Foster.

The vast majority of cruise ships visiting these shores were alongside in Belfast, dwarfing berthings in Londonderry, despite its rich and varied maritime heritage.

As part of her response to an Assembly Question, Mrs Foster stated: “By the end of the 2012 cruise season Belfast will have welcomed 45 cruise ships bringing 80,000 passenger and crew, with a further eight ships visiting Londonderry.”
