City gearing up for Europe’s biggest Hallowe’en carnival

Derry City Council is asking people to get involved in this year's Hallowe'en festival in Londonderry, the biggest in Europe.

IT’S that time again, when the spirits, creatures and beings of the ‘other world’ are getting ready to party it up on our streets in a spectacular illuminated carnival parade as part of the Banks of the Foyle Hallowe’en Carnival.

Being friendly folk, these creatures want us to join them! North West Carnival Initiative are now inviting interested performers, arts and community groups, schools, youth groups, students, individuals and artists to get involved this year’s Carnival Parade on October 31.

This year’s theme is The Other World and for the first time, North West Carnival Initiative is engaging a curator to help develop an artistic vision for the annual Hallowe’en parade.

Carnival Development Officer, Sharon Meenan is very excited about the process: “Participants will learn new skills and have the buzz of being part of what promises to be a fabulous spectacle weaving throughout the streets of the city.

“We are offering support to interested Groups. Working to the theme, together with trained artists/ facilitators your group will be able to take part and produce pageant pieces which reflect your own creativity and identity within the overall vision.”

The central objective of North West Carnival Initiative is to promote and encourage participation in quality, carnival based activity that is inclusive to all communities within the North West area.

The Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival Parade is part of an overall programme of events which promises to be out of this world!

If you would like you and/or your community to participate or require further information please contact Sharon by either: Tel: 028 71 365151 Ext: 6931 or e-mail: sharon.meenan@derrycity.gov.uk

By registering you are agreeing to participate in the Halloween Banks of the Foyle Carnival Parade with your own adequate supervision.

The parade will take place on Wednesday, October 31.

Workshops will be granted on a first come first served basis. Arts organisations and individual artists will be supported through working with the curator, buy-in or commission of pieces.
