One of the world’s leading advocates for creative and positive aging will come to The Playhouse for an interactive Creative Aging Symposium in May.
Dominic Campbell is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Creative Aging International.
As part of a visiting Fellowship to Northern Ireland through Ulster University and Queen’s University, he will be the key figure in the Symposium at The Playhouse on Friday May 13.
The event will begin at 11am in conversation with Dominic, and concluding with a round table networking afternoon. Individuals working in or interested in creative and positive provision for the elderly can address specific issues and meet in a friendly social setting towards a better understanding of creative aging.
“This event will be a chance for anyone involved or interested in inspired provision for the older generation to get together and share good practice, exchange ideas, and network,” community relations officer at The Playhouse Liam Campbell said.
“From 2006 to 2013 Dominic led ‘Bealtaine Festival’ a groundbreaking celebration of creativity in older age transforming it into one of Ireland’s most significant annual events.
“Dominic has been a member of the Department of Justice and Arts Council of Ireland exploration of ‘Cultural Diversity and The Arts’ advisory group and was a cultural representative on the National Economic and Social Forum ‘Futures Ireland’ initiative.
“He has also curated The Theatre of War Symposium at the Abbey Theatre Dublin and completed a commission from the Royal Society of Arts exploring engaged creative practice and public service provision in rural UK.
“Now as Co-founder of Creative Aging International he is enriching communities by developing new narratives with ageing populations. He’s currently commissioned by The Abbey (Ireland), The Albany (Deptford UK), Entelechy Arts (UK), Performance Ensemble (UK), Creature Tales (Tasmania) and Arts and Health (Australia) to make art interesting for and with the older generation,” Mr Campbell added.
