FORMER Institute winger Ryan Coyle who scored the winner for Derry City FC when they beat Celtic by three goals to two in the last competitive fixture between the clubs in 1997 recently swapped football boots for dancing shoes to help raise £1.4k for the Altnagelvin intensive care unit.

The fundraising venture was in appreciation of the care and treatment his dancing partner, Laura Cooke’s, father Raymond received in the unit.

Laura and Ryan participated as Salsa and Freestyle dance partners in a Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser held at Craigbane GAA Club in December.

Over 1,300 friends and family came along to the event to cheer them on and support the cause by donating money.

The pair had been rehearsing for months to impress judges including Dungiven boxer Eamonn O’Kane.

Now they’ve presented a donation of £1,400 to Noreen Elliott and Caroline Harley, Western Trust Intensive Care Ward Sisters at Altnagelvin Area Hospital.
