Catwalk descends from walls to village

THE city’s hugely popular annual fashion event returns as part of Culture Night with a new look.

The event which was previously held on the stunning location of the City’s historic walls will move ‘off the walls’ to the newly refurbished Craft Village.

The Catwalk event promises an evening of high fashion featuring an array of local retailers, stylists and the introduction of a number of budding designers who have recently graduated from the University of Ulster’s school of Art & Design who will come together for a spectacular runway show to rival that of the international fashion hotspots worldwide.

Local designer Finders Keepers Couture also makes its return after a phenomenal debut last year.

Creative director, Joe Carlin in advance of the event said that the evening promises to be a dazzling affair,

“The revamped surrounding of the Craft Village will provide the fascinating backdrop to celebrate the city’s love for fashion. The audience will be treated to a show of the fabulous style and creativity currently available on their doorstep whilst having the opportunity to view work from new designers on the scene.

“The calibre of the retailers in the Catwalk show this year is phenomenal include Bedlam, Pippa Boutique, Yellow Moon and Elizabeth James Bridal with support from the Syenna Hair and Beauty and Curtis Opticians, the show will be followed by music from the superb ‘outlaw superstars’, The Murder Balladeers. “The advice is dress up, show up to this spectacular runway show which promises to be the ultimate glitzy affair to see out this year’s Culture Night.”

Derry City Council’s Elaine Griffin, Organiser of this year’s Culture Night programme said: “We are anticipating another high fashion spectacle for what has become one of the City’s most popular Catwalk events.

“It is set to bring the daylong Culture Night programme to a spectacular finale showcasing the city’s creativity and fashion talent. Derry City Council have been working extremely hard with a number of museums, galleries, churches and historic building throughout the City all of which have come together to host Culture Night.”

Now in its third year, Culture Nights is a prominent day in the event calendar and the Catwalk event provides the ultimate to display our fashion talent in the run up to the UK City of Culture 2013.

The Culture Night Catwalk begins at 8.00pm in the Craft Village and is a free of charge and the audience can be part of the event by dressing to impress. For more information or to participate in the Catwalk in the Craft Village telephone Joe Carlin on 07864965733.

Culture Night will take place on Friday, September 21, hosting a night of entertainment, discovery and adventure, organised by Derry City Council in coordination with City of Culture 2013 and Ilex and a host of cultural venues throughout the city.
