Salmon moratorium extension sought

FISHERIES officials are trying to arrange meetings with six commercial salmon netters to ask them to voluntarily extend a moratorium on catching fish into 2013.

East Londonderry DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan asked the Fisheries Minister Carál Ní Chuilín had she reached agreement with the six holders of commercial coastal net licences to continue their voluntary moratorium on catching North Atlantic Salmon into 2013.

She explained: “My officials have sought meetings with each of the coastal salmon net licence holders with a view to extending the 2012 arrangements into 2013.”
