YOUNG entrepreneurs from a range of Londonderry schools descended on Foyleside shopping centre for the Young Enterprise trade fair last week.

Pupils from Lisneal College, St Brigid’s College, St Columb’s College, Cathedral Youth Club, Belmont House School, Foyleview School, St Mary’s College and North West Regional College took part.

Carol Fitzsimons, Chief Executive Officer of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland commented: “Our research demonstrates that young people in Northern Ireland crave ‘Apprentice’-style training.

“There is a wealth of young talent in Northern Ireland, but also a very real risk of a “brain drain” in the near future if we do not nurture our young entrepreneurs.

“In an increasingly-competitive employment market, it is imperative that young people are equipped with real-life, practical business skills that go beyond what they learn in school.

“It is our hope that programme such as Company, Team and QuickStart will inspire these young people to develop their full potential.

“We are grateful for the support of the Department and our corporate partners to deliver these programmes, and we work closely with educationalists to ensure they complement and reinforce the employability elements required in the curriculum, whilst encouraging young people an insight into the world of business.”

The winners were as follows: Best Company Enterprise, St Brigid’s College; Overall Company Runner-Up, Coleraine High School; Best StartUp Enterprise, TCW Enterprises; Best Quickstart Enterprise, Cathedral Youth Club; Best Team Enterprise, Belmont House School; Best Visiting Company, CBS Omagh; Best Product; St Brigid’s College; Best Marketing, Loreto College; Best Salesperson, Andrew Steele, Omagh Academy; Best Social Enterprise, TCW Enterprises; Mystery Shopper Award, Limavady Grammar School
