Green light for amusement arcade permit
THE members of the Environmental Services Committee of Derry City Council have given the green light for a permit in relation to a change of use of the rear bar at Dukes Bar in the Waterside to an amusement arcade.
At Thursday’s meeting members were told that an application had been made by Peter Villa, of 22 Clearwater, Caw, in respect of the premises at 100 Duke Street under the terms of the Betting Gaming Lotteries and Amusements (NI) Order 1985. Although the address of the premises is Duke Street, access to the proposed amusement arcade will be by the rear door located at the bottom of Spencer Road.
If ratified by the full council meeting it will mean the rear bar at the premises will be refurbished with the bar area removed to allow for around 35 gaming machines to be installed. Part of the renovation works will include blocking the rear bar off from the public bar at the front of the premises.
Committee members were told that the PSNI Foyle Area Commander had no objections to the proposal and that provision relating to the requirement for a Fire Certificate did not apply.
No objections were raised at the meeting, and the matter was unanimously passed for ratification by the full council.
