Fort George £4.5m science park contract award expected in March

TWO weeks after the Sentinel reported construction of a new North West Regional Science Park (NWRSP) at Fort George was expected to begin within weeks, second stage tendering has gone out on the main contract with an award of £4.5m expected in March.

Northern Ireland Science Park senior team members Mervyn Watley, Director of Corporate Real Estate and Norman Apsley, Chief Executive, along with Maureen Doherty of North West Region Cross Border Group (NWRWMG) have visited the site for test piling.

It is envisaged that the £4.5m contact will be awarded in March, with work starting the following month and a completion date of June 2014. Funded by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA Programme.

A fortnight ago the Sentinel reported how Social Development minister Nelson McCausland acknowledged work would begin this spring.

The Minister said he was working closely with the NWRSP to deliver a 50,000-square-foot complex commercial and research centre in Londonderry as a satellite of the internationally acclaimed Northern Ireland Science Park (NISP).
