Faughan valley landowners can get grants to protect ancient woodland
LANDOWNERS in the Faughan Valley region are to get advice on how to obtain grants to preserve areas of ancient woodland, control invasive species and establish areas of new woodland.
The Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, are offering two open evenings through which advice on how to get funding for invasive species control, tree planting schemes and woodland maintenance will be given.
Jonathan Henderson, Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Project Officer said: “At each information session we will be offering advice on grant schemes as well as who will be eligible and how they can be obtained. The invitation is open to all to come join the team at the RAPID offices where you will be presented with the benefits of planting trees for wood and shelter and as an alternative farm crop, as well as educating on schemes which highlight the harmful effects of Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam and Grey Squirrels with recommendations on the best way to deal with these pests.
“The overall aim remains to outline the lasting importance of maintaining areas of the ancient woodland.”
Two Faughan Valley grant information evenings will be offered on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 and Thursday, January 31 2013 at 7.30pm both evenings at the Rapid Offices, 2 Foreglen Road, Killaloo.
