Children commissioner to discuss how benefit cuts will affect young people

CHILDREN commissioner Patricia Lewsley-Mooney will vist Londonderry next week to discuss how benefits cuts are going to affect young people in the city.

The Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children & Young People will be visiting the city on January 16, 2013 to meet Derry City Council’s Children & Young People’s (CYP) Steering Group.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss Welfare Reform and the impact it will have on children and families within Northern Ireland and to hear what action the Commissioner has been taking and any updates regarding this.

Mayor Kevin Campbell said: “Derry City Council is delighted to be welcoming Patricia Lewsley-Mooney to the city. We are very supportive of the excellent work she does to provide support to those involved in working with children and young people and her visit to the city shows her commitment to the work we are doing in the Council area to support these initiatives.”

Derry City Council’s Children and Young People Steering Group was established to support the Children and Young People’s Officer to develop a clear vision and strategic framework and to improve & encourage partnership working in the city and district area for the delivery of Children and Young People Services.
