£250 sum for NW staff

SCHOOLS staff and educational administrators in Londonderry are to be paid a one-off sum of £250 following successful negotiations between the Education Minister John O’Dowd and the Unison trade union.

Unison’s Head of Bargaining Anne Speed said: “This is welcome news for our members. Unison NI has worked hard to ensure those employed by the Education board got the payment they thoroughly deserved and I’m happy to say we have been successful.”

The Education Minister agreed to the one off payment - the second such measure - for those employed by the education boards earning a Full Time Equivalent pay of £21,000 or less, for 2011/2012. Unison members in full-time posts will receive a one-off non-consolidated sum of £250. Those earning the equivalent rate for lesser hours will be paid on a pro rata basis.

Mr O’Dowd said: “I will do all within my powers to ensure that the £250 payments are made without unnecessary delay and staff receive the payments they are entitled to.”
