A JustGiving crowdfunding page was launched recently and so far has raised over £500 of the £1,000 total.

Jason Hartley, who is co-ordinating the project, is hoping to attract more visitors to the town by creating the video showing off the best the area has to offer.

Writing on his JustGiving page, Jason said: “We all love Carrickfergus and really want to show how amazing it is.

“Here at Carrickfergus-online, we have tried to promote the town the best we can but we are not making any money, so we thought we would ask you, the people of Carrickfergus to donate to make this happen.”

The town is, of course, famous for the striking Norman castle which dates back to the 12th century.

But the appeal has also sparked online discussion with people putting forward their ideas for the video content.

Another included the historic St Nicholas’ Church, the coastal walk past Marina, the Amphitheatre, Courtyard and Andrew Jackson cottage.

Broadening out from the town centre, a contributor to the discussion prompted “don’t forget the reservoirs for fishing and walking”.

At time of publication, the JustGiving page had reached £530 and has been supported by local businesses.
