The expansion of Magee could lead to 7k new jobs by 2030.

The expansion of Magee could lead to 7k new jobs by 2030.

The proposal for an expanded Magee College campus of the University of Ulster is a key plank in Londonderry’s wider regeneration plan.

The ‘One Plan’ suggests that the expansion of Magee would be of great economic benefit to the city.

“Total economic impact of the proposed expansion is forecast at £495m per annum by 2030, rising to some £1billion by 2040 and would becomes the catalyst for City-wide economic renewal,” the One Plan suggests.

“In conjunction with other supporting interventions, this has been forecast to lead to the creation of 2,800 new jobs (direct and indirect) by 2020, rising to 7,000 by 2030.”

The plan says expansion is “universally recognised as one of the key drivers in the successful regeneration of the city.”

“It has considerable potential to expand and generate a significant and catalytic impact on the local economy in terms of skills and jobs.”
