7th Cathedral Brownies and Cubs get cash

THE 7th Cathedral Brownies and Cub group is one of five County Londonderry charities to have benefited from a philanthropic initiative by DuPont.

Five local DuPont workers received cash donations from the company towards chosen charities in recognition of the time they volunteer and the good work they do.

The Volunteer Recognition Programme, a global initiative introduced by DuPont in 2009, has given away thousands of pounds since its inception to help communities all over the county.

One of this year’s recipients under the scheme was Ronnie Goligher who volunteers with the 7th Cathedral Brownies and Cub Group.

Ronnie said: “This is a wonderful thing for DuPont to do and I, and my fellow nominees and their charities, couldn’t be happier. We have approximately 35 girls in the Brownies and 40 boys in the Cubs, aged seven to eight years old, all from different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

“A full programme of activities ranging from games, craft, cookery, badge work, environmental topics, road safety issues and external activities is carried out throughout the year with the help of a dedicated volunteer staff.

“The money donated will help to support our on-going work and, no doubt, the news will bring a smile to the faces of all 75 of our Brownies and Cubs.” A local recognition event will be held later this year to further honour the commitment of the employees.

Paul Kirkpatrick, Organisation Manager said: “Some DuPont employees go to great lengths to help their local communities and we wanted to recognise that by giving each of the charities a cash boost to further their work and continue the positive impact they make.

“The strength of the nominations meant that five of our employee’s charities were awarded with the 1,000 US Dollars (around £630) donation. “They are the Owen Roe O’Neill’s GAC; 7th Cathedral Brownies and Cub Group; Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna; Tristar Football Club and the Chapel Road Community Playgroup who each get an equal share of the total £3,155 given this year.”

Paul continued: “As a way to further recognise our staff’s work we hold an event for them celebrating their achievements and giving them the chance to further talk about their charities and the work that they do.”
