The expansion of a private sector care home just outside Limavady town will provide 100 new jobs, it has emerged.
Cornfield Care Centre in Limavady has just completed a major £3.4m investment with the support of First Trust Bank. T
his has enabled the development of a new 52 bed unit predominantly for care of the elderly. The new unit will create 100 new jobs.
The Care Centre, owned and managed by husband and wife team Jervis and Jennifer Nutt, first opened in 1999 and the latest expansion will see it increase to 127 beds dedicated to the care of the frail, elderly and Alzheimer’s/Dementia sufferers.
The Care Centre currently employs 120 people and following the latest investment this number will increase by 100, made up of 80 full time and 20 part time positions. The new unit will also provide additional business to the local traders by provision of food and medical supplies.
Former farmer Jervis embraced the caring industry and established Cornfield Care centre in 26 acres of landscaped grounds on the edge of Limavady. The purpose-built facility specialises in care for elderly patients suffering from physical disability and also offers the latest facilities for residents with dementia as well as day care for local elderly patients.
Speaking about the latest development, Jervis Nutt, Managing Director, Cornfield Care Centre said: “Our team has always kept ‘quality care in a quality setting’ at the heart of what we do and with the help of First Trust Bank I am delighted to be able to extend the care centre to meet the growing demand for such high quality and personalised care. The Bank’s support has been invaluable in delivering this project and has been marked by personal service, industry insight and the necessary flexibility as our plans developed. We now look forward to opening our doors and welcoming new residents to the Centre in the coming weeks.”
Welcoming news of the investment, Fiona Kelly, Relationship Manager, First Trust Bank said; “The Bank has worked with Jervis Nutt and his team for 15 years and we have always been impressed by their commitment to offering superior care in a professional and caring environment. When Jervis approached us with his latest expansion plans we were delighted to be able to support him to meet the growing demand they had identified, particularly in offering specialist dementia care. This latest expansion not only raises the bar significantly for quality nursing care in the area, but now makes them one of the largest employers in the Limavady area. Their commitment to their residents, their staff and indeed the local area as a whole is to be applauded and we look forward to supporting them in the future.”
