£12m construction supporting 60 jobs in Strabane area

Riverside Building & Development Group - the promoters behind the ‘Three Rivers’ project on the Strabane/Lifford gateway - has announced it is on track to have projects worth over £12 million completed in the area by the end of 2018.

This includes 20 homes at Artigarvan. ‘Berryhill Gardens’ is the fourth phase of the programme which on conclusion will bring to 240 the number of new properties by the group in the area.

Niall McAteer, project director, Riverside Building & Development, explained: “The unveiling of this latest project follows on from the completion of the 40-unit ‘Glenview Manor’ development last June and the virtual sell-out of the entire ‘Bracken Gate’ & ‘Bracken Hill’ schemes currently being built in Strabane town.

“House building makes a significant economic contribution and the current schemes under construction by the Riverside Group are expected to provide the equivalent of 60 full-time jobs for sub-contractors on site and in the supply chain.

“This new housing project, just off the Art Road, is a £2.2 million boost to the local economy.

“Relatively benign January weather has enabled construction work to get well underway and it is expected that the keys for the first occupants will be handed over in July.”

Mr McAteer went on to point out the programme dovetails with major investment for the area.

“The commencement of the first phase of the nearby A5 dual carriageway later this year will provide homeowners with reduced journey times and fast and safer access to work, hospitals, colleges, commercial, leisure and other services and facilities all along the new 88-kilometre road from Derry to Aughnacloy,” he stated.

“The Artigarvan area has benefitted from the recent £30 million investment by LacPatrick in its new state of the art dairy processing plant which is expected to go into commercial production this Spring.

“With work expected to begin shortly on the new £21.5 million Strabane Academy on the nearby Derry Road, economic activity levels look set to improve. ‘Riverside’ is pleased to be part of this resurgence.”
