DESPITE joint opposition by Unionists, councillors pushed through a boycott against Israeli produce at a meeting of Derry City Council on Tuesday.
The Motion in favour of the boycott was jointly tabled by the SDLP and Sinn Fein, and also called for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
Despite Unionist opposition, the Motion was passed by majority vote.
Speaking afterwards, SF councillor Gerry McLaughlin said he hoped people would support the move adding it was his opinion that people were 'crying out' for a practical way to show support for the people of Gaza and their condemnation of the violence visited upon them.
