STRATHFOYLE residents have expressed concerns over the lack of street cleaning facilities in the area.
At present Derry City Council have allocated one manual street sweeper to the village, which has a population of around 1600 people.
Paul Hughes , who lives in the area, said although residents acknowledge the high standard of work the lone council
employee does, the village requires more road cleaning resources.
"The manual street cleaner does a fantastic job, however it is evident that he is not receiving the necessary support needed from Derry City Council," he said.
Mr Hughes said other areas of the Waterside appear to have been allocated greater resources.
"Almost every other housing estate across the city and waterside has a mechanical street sweeper at least once a week that keeps the roadsides clean.
"I have driven through Gobnascale, Kilfennan and Nelson Drive. The quality of services that they appear to be receiving is over and above that of Strathfoyle in that all of their roadsides are clean."
He said the onus was now on Derry City Council to address the situation.
"The council have a lot to answer for, this has gone for far too long,"he said.
But a spokeswoman for Derry City Council said the local authority believes the current cleaning arrangements for the Strathfoyle area are satisfactory and that arrangements for the mechanical sweeper are made if and when required.
She said these arrangements are reviewed on a regular basis.
