NORTHERN Ireland's First minister will perform one of his last official engagements as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party in Londonderry tomorrow night.
Dr Ian Paisley announced earlier this year that he is to step down both as First Minister and DUP leader, a post he has held for almost four decades.
East Belfast MP, Peter Robinson, the long time deputy leader, will succeed Dr Paisley as of the end
of this month.
But tomorrow evening, Dr Paisley, a frequent visor to Londonderry over the years, will visit the city for one final time as leader of the party he founded in 1971.
He will carry out the rededication service at the party's Londonderry headquarters and it is understood he will be accompanied by Mr Robinson.
Party colleague, Stormont Speaker William Hay said the service promised to be a historical evening.
"It truly is the end of an era both for the party and for Northern Ireland as a whole. We are very pleased Dr Paisley will perform one of his last official engagements as leader of the party here in Londonderry."
Dr Paisley will dedicate a room at the party's Londonderry headquarters in memory of Mr Hay's mother Anna Margaret, and unveil a plaque in memory of Will Hamilton, one of the party's most dedicated supporters in Londonderry.
Mr Hay said it was a fitting tribute to both that Dr Paisley would preside over the dedications.
