A 23-year-old man was shot in Londonderry's Creggan Estate last night (Tuesday, November 4).
The man was taken to hospital from treatment after five men entered the home at Iniscarn Crescent around 8pm and attacked him.
Sinn Fein in the City condemned the attack. Councillor Patricia Logue said: "The shooting of a man in Creggan last night
was wrong. It was carried out by groups attempting to make themselves relevant, however, they must learn from the past and see that so-called punishment shootings achieved very little.
"There are other ways to deal with issues affecting us all, both with the community and with the PSNI. Those behind the shootong must desist from these actions and emngage with the community in order to actively promote community safety partnerships and accountable policing so that we can bring and end to these incidents."
There have been over a dozen shootoings carried ouy by dissident republicans in Londonderry in the past year.
And, an Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) report due to be released this morning is expected to state that dissident republican actvity across Northern Ireland is at its highest level for almost six years.
The latest IMC report covers the period from March 1 to August 31. On march 7, the Real IRA murdered soldiers Mark Quinsey and Patrick Azimkar at Masserene Army base in Antrim. And, on March 9, the Continuity IRA shot dead PSNI officer Stephen Carroll in Craigavon, County Armagh.
Today's IMC report is expected to examine the killings and dissident republican activity in much more detail.
