90 people waiting for their own little cabbage patch

OVER 90 people have been waiting for their only little patch of land to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers in St Columb’s Park in each of the past four years, it’s been revealed

Derry City Council has one allotment site at St Columb’s Park which comprises 30 allotments.

It says there has been no change in the availability of allotments over the last five years.

A spokesperson stated: “There are currently 90 persons on the waiting list. Due to the limited number of allotments there has been minimal movement on the waiting list.

“The number on the waiting list in each of the years in question is as follows: 2012 - 90; 2011 - 92; 2010 - 92; 2009 - 93; and 2008 - 93.”
