£25 a week for art studios

FRESH details of a new £100k creative village for visual artists that will be up and running in the heart of Londonderry by April, have been revealed.

In early February the Sentinel reported how Creative Village Arts (CVA) planned to offer studio space for artists and an educational centre at the Pump Street Courtyard.

Now it’s been revealed the new Visual Arts centre will feature four artists’ studios available for rent and an educational studio. It will also host a fine art print workshop, Derry Print Studios.

Culture Company 2013 Chief Executive Shona McCarthy said: “There has been an historic under-provision of inexpensive artists’ studios within Derry-Londonderry and our support of this project and the Creative Village Arts organisation goes some way to redressing the problem. “

The four artists’ studios will be priced at £25 per week, inclusive, and CVA is happy for a studio to be shared between two artists to ensure the facilities are financially accessible for all.

Furthermore the lease periods will be flexible, with CVA’s minimum lease period being only 3 months, for those who wish to trial renting a studio before committing to a lengthy lease, or require a space to prepare for an exhibition.
