150 to walk in memory of Catherine
ONE hundred and fifty people are taking part in a sponsored walk on Sunday in memory of the late Catherine McCloskey who died last year as a result of an unforeseen respiratory illness.
The walk will raise money for the Chest, Heart and Stroke organisation, which provides support for people affected by cardiac and respiratory illness.
On Sunday, October 7, 2012, the walk will proceed from St Columb’s Park down Clooney Terrace to Craigavon Bridge, along the embankment and over the Peace Bridge back to St Columb’s Park.
Catherine McCloskey was the manager of the Londonderry branch of leading high street insurance retailer, Open + Direct since 2003.
A popular figure both within the company and within the local community, Catherine died tragically late last year due to an unforeseen respiratory illness. In memory of Catherine, her colleagues and friends at the Londonderry branch decided to raise money in aid of Chest, Heart and Stroke - when word got out within the company they were startled to see the overwhelming response, as more and more colleagues from across Open + Direct’s 16 branches got in touch to volunteer.
Catherine was held in such high regard by the many people she had met within the company over her 25 years with Open + Direct that, along with volunteers from Catherine’s own family, there are now up to 150 people taking part in the fundraising event on Sunday 7th October.
Together Catherine’s colleagues and family will walk from St. Columb’s Park to Craigavon Bridge and back to the park via the Peace Bridge and hope to raise thousands for this worthwhile cause as a fitting tribute to a much loved colleague, manager and friend.
