Maiden City...2

Bertie Peacocks...1
THE final of the North West Invitational Cup was contested between Bertie Peacocks and Maiden City, at the Riverside Stadium, on Saturday.

Both sides started brightly, however after 10 minutes Maiden City took the lead through their highly talented striker Adam Dougherty who lobbed the keeper from 18 yards. Berties didn't sit back, they competed for the ball and passed it around superb.

They equalised just before the break after a well worked move that Kyle Walker finished off. Both teams were playing attractive football with McGinty, Sharkey and Brown having outstanding performances for Maiden City.

In the second half Peacocks pushed on and McGonagle and Walker were denied by the impressive Shay Cross. The winner came when young Thomas Cole played a lovely one-two with Devenney and rattled the ball home for Maiden City.

After the game young Connor Magee of Maiden City was voted Man of the Match.

In attendance was the North West Cup sponsor Derek McCloskey and the IFA County Development Coach Stephen Robinson.

Meanwhile the third/fourth playoff match was between Coleraine and Institute where the Bannsiders came out on top with a 2-1 victory. The match was full of excellent football and entertained a sizeable crowd which turned out to support the boys.

'Stute opened the scoring in the first half when young Deighan got wide and slotted the ball into the path of George Brown who chipped the Coleraine keeper.

Both teams competed hard and Coleraine equalised from the penalty spot just before half time after the skills of Curtis Rodgers proved too much for the 'Stute centre backs who brought down the Coleraine striker.

The second half produced more high tempo football with Matthew Alford and Dean McCloskey in top form.

'Stute's back four held firm until Adam Harte laid the ball into the path of Jamie Ellis who unleashed a fierce shot into the top corner with five minutes left. Coleraine's Curtis Rodgers was rightfully named Man of the match after the game.
