YMCA Ladies...1

Linfield Ladies...1
A sizeable crowd at Drumahoe on sunday afternoon were treated to magnificent game of football between the two best under 16 ladies teams in the country.

The stakes were high with the winners likely to be crowned champions but both teams produced a fantastic game of football.

YMCA started brightly with Bergin and McMullan winning the midfield battle and YM almost opened the scoring after ten minutes when Lauren Wade broke through the Linfield defence but pulled her shot wide of the post.

Linfield began to get into the game and the tackles were going in thick and fast in the midfield area.

Slightly against the run of play Linfield were awarded a controversial penalty after 20 minutes when Claragh Connor was adjudged to have brought down the Linfield striker. Linfield duly converted the kick and went 1-0 up.

YMCA tried hard to to equalise but Wade had two other chances before halftime to score but the normally reliable striker was having an off day and spurned both opportunities.

The second half began like the first with YM pressing but the Linfield defence were resolute and began to cause YM problems on the break.

Keeper Harkness pulled off two marvellous stops to ensure Linfield didn't increase their lead and 15 minutes from time Wade finally made the breakthrough when she finished off a marvellous YM move to equalise.
YM pushed for the winner and hit the crossbar with a shot cum cross but both teams held firm to hold out for a deserved draw.

The draw leaves YM still 6 points clear at the top of the table win one game to play, whereas Linfield have three games remaining before they end their league campaign.

The smart money is on a league championship play-off between YM and Linfield plus the the Tesco Cup Final, which takes place on Saturday, April 18, at Coagh Utd's ground.

The outcome of the league and cup has a few twists and turns yet and everyone who watched the game on Sunday will be watering at mouth in expectation of the remaining Linfield versus YMCA clashes.
