THE Western Health and Social Care Trust has been working with Age Concern in Londonderry to give carers an opportunity to take time out for themselves.
To mark this year’s Carers Week, the theme of which was ‘Carers can’t afford to be ill’, the Trust funded a Carers Pamper Day in Malvern House, Chapel Road, Waterside.

Lee McDermott, carer support coordinator with the Western Trust, said: “We wan
t to acknowledge the huge contribution made to health and social care provision by carers throughout the Western Trust area. Most importantly, we want to make carers in the Western Trust area aware of the support and services that are available locally and to build upon these supports.”

Eilish O’ Doherty of Age Concern, said: “We are hosting a Pamper Day for Carers with the help of the Western Trust in our premises, Malvern House, Chapel Road. We are delighted to be able to facilitate this event to show our appreciation of the tremendous work carried out by family and friends who look after their older people in our community thus enabling them to remain in their own homes.”

Therapies ranging from facials to reflexology were provided to those attending and they had an opportunity to share their experiences of caring over lunch.

Information stands were also on display during Carers Week at various locations including: Claudy Health Centre; Waterside Health Centre; Foyleside Medical Centre.

If you would like to find out more about the support and information that the Western Trust can provide to you as a carer, please contact Lee McDermott, Carer Support Co-ordinator, on 028 71272103; email: Lee.McDermott@westerntrust.hscni.net.
