A YOUNG songbird from the City has returned from the annual week-long residential Salvation Army Music School in Castlewellan with an award for her vocal abilities.
Toni-Lee Moore, who is 13 and the daughter of Andrew Moore, is a member of the Londonderry Corps of the Salvation Army.
She joined other delegates all keen to improve their musical technique, make new friends and enjoy a wide variety of activities
within a Christian environment.
The bubbly teen won the Leader’s Choice award for chorus singing, which was presented in recognition of how her singing had progressed over the course of the music school.
Delighted with her win, Toni-Lee didn’t just enjoy the singing, admitting: “We did drama and tambourine playing, games and outdoor pursuits as well.
“I love singing, and I love all kinds of music. Singing with the Salvation Army is really good. The atmosphere and the songs we sing are great and I get to meet lots of people,” she said.
Toni-Lee has, who is a pupil at Lisneal College, has attended Londonderry Salvation Army all her life.
She was introduced to the organisation by her grandparents, Mr and Mrs David Moore and said she really enjoyed her first experience of music school.
“Singing with so many other young people has been brilliant. I’ve made lots of new friends and I’ve enjoyed the worship and praise in the evening. I’d defiantly like to come again next year, it’s been really good.”
Proud dad, Andrew said: “Toni-Lee is a brilliant wee girl and always has been, so it’s no surprise to me that she has won this award. She is the apple of my mum and dad’s eye and they are just delighted with her. She is the kind of wee girl who just gets on with everybody.”
Her doting grandfather, David Moore, said he and his wife were “delighted” at their granddaughter’s success at the Music School.
