JOHN Peto, from the Nerve Centre, will join professionals from design, performance arts, cultural heritage, crafts and music to participate in leadership development training provided by Creative and Cultural Skills and the Arts Council Northern Ireland.
The pilot "Creative and Cultural Skills NI Leadership Programme" launched at the "Oh Yeah Music Centre" Belfast is a direct response to sector demand and has been specifically designed to meet their development needs.
Explaining why he applied for
the course, John Peto of the Nerve Centre said: "I was delighted to receive a bursary for the Arts and Cultural Leadership course from the Arts Council.
"In recent years the real value of the Creative Industries to the NI Economy has come to be recognised at all levels and it is only through training and developing new skills within the sector that we will be able to maintain our position.
"The provision of the bursary to a non-profit organisation like the Nerve Centre ensures that these new skills will be developed and shared at a community level and within the wider North West area.
"I can't wait to start the Programme and find out just how far I can push myself with the support and encouragement of my peers."
Launching the programme, Roisín McDonough, Chief Executive of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, explained the significance of the training, saying: "The Arts Council is pleased to fund Creative and Cultural Skills to deliver this much needed support to the sector, in response to its demand for leadership development.
"This is the first bespoke leadership development programme designed specifically for the Creative and Cultural sector to be offered in Northern Ireland."
