Girls Aloud singer, Nadine Coyle, has told a leading glossy weekly magazine that her future career plans possibly include going solo.
Giving her clearest indication yet that she is contemplating life without the chart-topping group, she said: "I can see all of us in Girls Aloud going solo. I like singing, that's what I do, so I could go back home and sing with who I used to sing wi
th in Derry. Or I could sing in LA".
The 23-year-old blondie, however, is well aware of her value to the group: "I'm definitely the singer. I do most of the vocals".
Rumours abound that Nadine has become envious of fellow Girl, Cheryl Cole, aged 25, who has enjoyed a very high profile as an X Factor judge, and she now fears that Girls Aloud could be marketed in the future as Cheryl and her backing band.
It is rumoured that the group's former manager, Louis Walsh, a mainstay of the X Factor judging panel, has said he'll make Nadine a solo star if she ever wants to go it alone.
Stories of cracks appearing in Nadine's relationship with the rest of the group started last year when she moved to Los Angeles when she fell for Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe in 2006. Although the couple have now parted, Nadine has stayed in the USA - but the rest of the band are based in Britain. In addition, she is opening a series of businesses, including an Irish pub and candle shop, in LA, giving her more reason to stay Stateside.
Gossip in the glitter circle has it that the other girls were said to be furious when she missed a flight back to London to join them at the Brit Awards last year after apparently mislaying her passport.
She also refused to take part in last year's ITV2 reality TV show The Passions Of… Girls Aloud and, in September, she missed the group's performance on Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show.
In the magazine interview Nadine said one of the main issues between her and the rest of Girls Aloud was that she was more of a private person, adding: "If you do too much TV, it allows people to make an informed decision about whether or not they think you're an arsehole". she says.
Now dating former US football star Jason Bell, who is 30, she had yet another reason to fly from the Girls Aloud nest.
