LONDONDERRY is gearing up for the hugely successful Jazz festival.
Derry City Council has said it is proud of its association with this premier event, which, since 2002 has developed into one of the leading and eagerly anticipated annual music events in the province.
Once again a feast of top class entertainment awaits music fans in the Walled City for the 2009 festival featuring a jam packed, fun filled programme including the best of international, national and local musicians featuring most genres of music including Jazz, Swing & Jump Jive, Blues, Big Band, Salsa and Dixieland.
The event seems to grow bigger by the year, attracting more and more music lovers - and people who just want to sample the unique atmosphere.
A spokeswoman said: "We're really excited about this year's event, which welcomes back Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Digby Fairweather, Kenny Ball and the David Lyttle Three featuring special guest Mobo award winning Soweto Kinch to the festival. Other outstanding participants who are playing at this year's event for the first time include Elkie Brooks, Eri Yamamoto Trio, Moncef Genoud, the Janet Seidel Trio and Sound of Seventeen. However this is just the tip of the musical iceberg! Make sure you check out our artist's page for full details of this year's programme."
Audiences will be delighted to see that the Guinness Free Jazz Trail is back bigger and better this year, providing hundreds of hours of FREE music and entertainment over the weekend.
Quite often, people associate being free with second rate, but anyone who has gone along to the festival will testify that there is some seriously good talent on display.
The late night festival club at the City Hotel will also offer an opportunity to sit back and relax to the sounds of some top class music after the days' activities.
The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival is funded by Derry City Council and Guinness and supported by BBC Radio Foyle and BBC Radio Ulster.
