ULSTER'S X Factor star Eoghan Quigg is expected to be the first finalist of 2008 to release a debut album – as his record company hopes to cash in on Mother's Day sales.
The 16-year-old from Dungiven, Northern Ireland, recently signed a contract with the Sony BMG owned label RCA records and is due to release his first album in March.
Eoghan's debut album, which is currently untitled, has been scheduled by RCA bosses
for release on March 16 according to a listing on the company website.
It is believed that the debut album is to be released on this date to capitalise on anticipated Mothers' Day gift sales.
The teenager has had to temporarily swap the bright lights of the stage for his good old school uniform after returning to the classroom to prepare for his GCSE exams.
He is back in lessons at St Patrick's College under the watchful eye of principal Anne Sands after a whirlwind few months which saw him sing with Boyzone in front of mentor Simon Cowell to come third in the ITV singing competition. However the spiky-haired lad is not leaving the limelight just yet - the Irish boyband, Boyzone, which recently reformed, has invited him to join them on their forthcoming tour which kicks off in Belfast in May. He will also join X-Factor finalists including winner Alexandra Burke for a stadium tour of the UK.
Most of the 2008 X Factor finalists have managed to secure lucrative record deals.
Diana Vickers recently joined Eoghan on the RCA label and JLS signed a deal with Epic records.
Alexandra Burke, who was the only X Factor finalist to be given a contract by Simon Cowell's label Syco, will not now see the release of her debut album until the late autumn. She has already hit Number 1 in the singles chart with her version of the Leonard Cohen classic, Hallelujah.
